Chris Williams, Entertainments Officer for the Extravaganza, said: “In the spring of 1904 Harry Houdini was in England playing the London Hippodrome. Each day he issued his standard challenge to the audience for them to bring their own handcuffs to challenge him. One day in March a representative of the Daily Illustrated Mirror issued a special challenge to Houdini to escape from a pair of handcuffs built by a blacksmith in Birmingham over a five year period. Houdini accepted the challenge and on March 17 after over an hour of struggle he managed to free himself.

“After stumbling across this story, now known as Houdini’s Mirror Cuff Challenge, the committee have decided to challenge Roslyn Walker to a similar task. Over the last two years we have been working closely with a number of master locksmiths and metal workers on a unique pair of handcuffs that can only be described as escape proof. After trying them on myself and even with the key in hand I couldn’t get out.

Roslyn will be searched for anything that he could use as a tool and once we’re sure he has no means of escape we’ll place him in the cuffs.

“We are unable to give details of who was involved in the manufacture of these cuffs as those involved feel that if in the unlikely event Roslyn does escape in case Roslyn does escape it could ruin their reputations.”

Roslyn Walker, 29, said: “I have escaped from handcuffs before, but each cuff has always been in the public domain.  You can prepare for things like that. But the only people to have seen the cuff I’m going to be locked in this weekend are those that made it and the committee. I haven’t even been told who’s been involved with this so I can’t try and get information out of them to help me escape.

“I honestly have no idea what these cuffs look like or how they work. I’m yet to fail an escape, but this could seriously be the restraint that beats me.”

Roslyn has accepted the challenge on the term’s he is not allowed to see how they lock and unlock nor can he touch the cuffs until the time they are locked on his wrists. The only way out is to either find a way to escape or admit defeat.

If he fails Roslyn will forfeit his fee of £1000.00 

The cuffs will be on display to the general public at the main arena information point from Saturday 1st May until the time of the challenge on Monday 3rd May.

Roslyn said: “I’m nervous. And I’m praying that the old saying ‘if it was built by a man it can be defeated by a man’ rings true and that I am that man.”

Roslyn will also be performing a big escape each day of the event, for times and place please pick up a programme.

From the spectacular and gravity-defying three chair balance to his fascinating linking ring routine (which has been praised as the finest in Britain), the show guarantees to amuse, entertain and delight all who watch.

Set against the colourful and unique Victorian Theatre set, based on Pollock’s twopenny coloured toy theatre, the open-air show has a feel of travelling shows of the twenties and thirties and the stage gives even the largest audiences a great view.

The show is fully self-contained with its own generator. The whole set folds almost magically away into the trailer, which is painted to look like the outside of the theatre!

This year the Superstars of Britannia Wrestling Promotions will be participating in the annual Llandudno Victorian  Extravaganza weekend, showcasing their wrestling skills on the main events arena and even collecting money for charities in the parade, as well as hosting a special 2 hour show at the Craig-y-Don Community Centre on Sunday 2nd May at 7.30pm.

There are 6 matches scheduled for the show as well as a Royal Rumble main event where all Superstars will battle it out until just one man is left standing!
