Queen Victoria

As well as performing many important official duties at our Victorian Extravaganza Her Majesty has also enjoyed a rather hectic 2008.

The Llandudno Fun Day and Donkey Derby is now in its 41st year and was held at Bodafon Fields during August. As you would expect Her Majesty was guest of honour and she was thrilled to watch a spectacular stuntman performance, however due to the exceedingly hot weather (the sun always shines in Llandudno) they were forced to keep the action to a minimum.

Her Majesty was asked to judge the nobbly knees competition and although her advisors warned that this would not be strictly appropriate Her Majesty threw caution to the wind and happily joined in the fun eagerly assisted by her Lady in Waiting.

The Llandudno Carnival was held in August and Queen Victoria judged the Carnival Royalty which included Queen’s, Princes, Princesses, Petal’s and Rosebud’s. The judging proved to be most difficult as there were thirty plus entrants, of a consistently high standard from all over North Wales.

Later Her Majesty joined our Mayor to lead the procession in the Carnival which was themed as a Wild West event. Fortunately no Indians attempted to capture our Queen. They were perhaps intimidated by her playing the drums with The Batala Bermo Troup after which they gave a stunning exhibition of drumming on

Bodafon Fields. This exciting Band will be performing in The Extravaganza parade.

Also during the year Her Majesty was invited as Guest of Honour by The Llandudno Flower Club when they held a Victorian themed evening. Members displayed flowers in a Victorian theme and Her Majesty was presented with a posy. Refreshments included Victoria sponge, heart shaped strawberry biscuits, cucumber

sandwiches and a glass of champagne. The Flower club meet at The Trinity Centre.

Finally on December 6th Her Majesty led The Llandudno Christmas Parade. This was a most joyous and spectacular occasion. Amidst Carol Singers and Dancers the Town Christmas lights were switched on and all agreed that this was a wonderful beginning to The Festive Season.

Those taking part in the Parade enjoyed Mulled wine in the Town Hall and Children of the town (by appointment) were lucky to have Father Christmas present them with gifts.

Her Majesty Queen Victoria (portrayed by Muriel Baldwin) declared that 2008 had been a busy and successful year for Llandudno and was looking forward to 2009 with much excitement. One of her first official duties will be will be crowning Kayleigh Hoe-Pike as The Queen of The May for 2009. This will take place on Saturday at 10.50 at the promenade arena.
